I thought I would pass the word to my fellow Disney Fans! The Free Dining Plan has been extended through December 17. This is the first time ever that Disney has offered the Free Dining Plan to the general public outside of the August-September time frame.

If you stay at a Disney Value Resort, you will get the Quick Service Dining Plan for free or you can pay a little extra to upgrade to the Basic Dining Plan. If you stay at a Disney Moderate or Disney Deluxe Resort, you will get the Basic Dining Plan for free. Just a little extra deal, if you book through Explore the Magic, you get an extra discount off this already discount price!

The dates for this promotion are vacations from September 29-December 17 with black out dates for the Thanksgiving Week. The promotion for this weekend is for guests with Disney Visa Cards, but starting on Monday this promotion will be available for everyone to book. To book this discount package, click on this link http://bit.ly/EWHED

Speaking of the DDP...we've used it twice before when tips were included....what do you tip when at a buffet? I thought you would tip as normal but others have said no...not as much. What is the proper etiquette? Thanx

Good question. I tend to over tip.

I have heard that it is around 12-15% for buffets, 18-20% for table services, but there are many different opinions on this.

My personal policy is that if you insist on tacking on a tip, and I would've normally tipped more, you aren't getting any extra from me. When I was a waiter, we had the option to waive the mandatory gratuity for parties larger than 6 and I often did it hoping to get the full 20%. It paid off 95% of the time.

Before paying full room rates and taking the free dining plans, check out the room discounts that Disney is offering, they are giving 28% and up to 40% discounts that are depending on the length of stay would save much more than the free dining that Disney is pushing. Do the math before buying.

Why are you tipping at a buffet? I've always thought that the buffets were very expensive and "overpriced" when I've eaten there. And since you're doing half the work of getting your own food, I would tip half as much as at true table service. I actually prefer the family style restaurants to the buffet. You still get all you can eat, and a variety of food. But they bring it to you. I usually tip (if at all) a lower percentage knowing that they're still getting the right amount of money for the work.

Maybe, $2 per round of drink refills. If they clear during the meal, then another $2. Basically, $2 per trip up to a max of 15% of the bill.

But most of the time, I don't view a buffet as a tipping sort of environment. We don't tip at Cici's or old country buffet.

Is tipping [NOSPAM, use the at sign here] a Disney buffet really expected? I don't want to be that guy, if tipping is really expected at the buffet.

I thought it was 10% for a buffet. That's what we tip at buffets here and 15% for regular table service.

The tip should be based on the price of the meal and beverages before tax.

BTW, we like the DDP because it gives us a chance to eat at table service places we couldn't normally afford to eat at.

If your server is working hard for you - regardless of it being full service, partial service or self service - you should tip them the same way.

I don't know if I agree with that but tipping is a fuzzy area to begin with. I think most people would agree 10% is more reasonable in a buffet situation. I'm basing this on a few articles in trade magazines. I personally tip more if the staff is good about clearing plates and I don't have an empty drink. This is also like tipping a bartender... do I tip 18% for my tab when I drink something on the rocks or do I tip $1 per drink... I tip based on service. I've had bar tabs as high as $50 at expensive bars (not just for myself!) and tipped very little because I got bad service but then again, at my local watering hole I often tip 100% ($20 tab, $20 tip) because the drinks are cheap and the service is excellent.

tipping is such a tricky thing - my husband tends to give 15% i usually start off with 10% ands then add to it based on service. i wish i could financially swing taking advantage of the free dining offer - for my family it's an good deal.

I normally pay the same ampount at both buffet and full service but I'm rethinling my tipping rules. When we went to Boma the server only came to our table to take our drink orders and deliver them. Then he vanished. I kept looking for him to get our drinks refilled but he never materialized. I felt bad having to give him 18%, but that is what we were told was expected. He did not earn it.

I tip what I feel they deserve, not what they expect. If they earn it they get it, if not then they get what I feel is appropriate.

They actually offered the free dinning last year through December. Although they say Thanksgiving week is blacked out, we checked in on Thanksgiving day and had the free dinning for the length of our stay.
