Recent announcement at the D23 expo:
Here is the world of imagination, hopes and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, the age of chivalry, magic and make-believe are reborn and fairytales come true. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young-in-heart, to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true. Walt Disney on Fantasyland

A bird's-eye view of the vastly-expanded Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park offers Guests a new land of enchantment in a magical fairy tale forest just beyond the castle walls.
Within the next few years, young-in-heart Guests will have even more ways to live out their most imaginative dreams at the Walt Disney World Resort.
During a surprise announcement at the D23 Expo, Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, revealed plans for a grand expansion at Magic Kingdom Park that will double the areas size by 2013.
The expansion will offer new immersive entertainment for fans of characters, princesses and Disney fairies.
Meeting a Disney princess is always a special highlight of any Magic Kingdom [Park] visit, Jay said. No longer will you wait in a long line just to meet a princess.
Instead, Guests will be able to meet with them in their own themed castle, cottage or chateau, and the experience will go beyond just cheerful greetings, autographs and photos. These new areas will allow Guests to celebrate Sleeping Beautys birthday, dance with Cinderella, or meet Belle in the Beasts library for a story. At Pixie Hollow, Guests of all sizes can shrink to the size of pixies and interact with Disney fairies. Guests also can train to be one of Cinderellas royal knights, or grab a bite to eat at Gastons Tavern or inside Beasts castle.

A new attraction will take Guests through beautifully rendered scenes featuring favorite songs from the popular animated feature.
Jay also revealed plans for the addition of a new dark ride attraction based on The Little Mermaid, as well as the expansion of an opening-day classic attraction.

Guests are invited to step into the big top and join the circus before their magical flight over Fantasyland on Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
Dumbo [the Flying Elephant] is the most popular attraction in Fantasyland, Jay said. You said you wanted more chances to ride it. Were doubling [its] size.
Instead of waiting in line, Guests can wait for their turn on Dumbo the Flying Elephant, while playing interactive games in a nearby circus tent.
The Fantasyland area of Magic Kingdom Park made its debut on the parks opening day Oct. 1, 1971, and many of this lands original attractions still can be experienced today: Mad Tea Party, Snow Whites Scary Adventures, Cinderellas Golden Carousel, Peter Pans Flight and its a small world. Only a few attractions have been added over the years, including The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in 1999 and Mickeys PhilharMagic in 2003.
"Transforming an entire 'land' is something weve never done before, and from what Ive seen, its going to be spectacular," said Phil Holmes, vice president of Magic Kingdom Park. "This is truly a great time to be a Cast Member and Im looking forward to watching our bright future come to life.

They mention winnie the pooh and mickey's philharmagic. Both attractions are kind of a dud. Philharmagic is almost never full (especially when I go during slower times of the year), and winnie the pooh basically upset a huge number of mr toad fans.
They're talking about messing with Dumbo. When dumbo is closed, there will be a large amount of upset dumbo fans.
But the mickey's toon town fair was supposed to be temporary when it first opened. Sort of a party or something if I remember right.
They could keep goofy's barnstormer in a new fantasyland.
But I'm not sure if the personal interaction with characters will be a good experience. I find the meeting with mickey after choosing 1 of 4 doors because there's 4 or 5 mickeys to meet with to be really underwhelming.
I like the meeting areas at animal kingdom because it's outside and set in a neat area. The inside location in the small room to meet mickey at the magic kingdom feels like you've been invited into mickey's tiny office. You're often hurried along, and it's a nice picture oppourtunity, but I'm not sorry to see that experience get changed.
The princess meetings don't really sound that neat. Booking a time for a ride on dumbo or a meeting with characters will be a nice way to avoid waiting in lines.

Toontown was meant to be temporary.
I actually really like Philharmagic... we always almost always see it.
Looks like Barnstormer is staying but Mickey/Minnie houses are going... not sure how I personally feel about that but neither is all that interesting.
This will be fun to see how it all comes together.

I loooove Philharmagic. Last year, we made a visit to MK in the pouring rain to see it only to hop the monorail to Epcot for the remainder of the day.
The changes look good but are most definitely for kids and not "big kids" like me and J. I do look forward to seeing them.

I think people are really going to embrace the new Dumbo area, especially since there will now be two of them running. It will hopefully make the lines that much lower.
I too like Philharmagic. I even like Pooh. Philharmagic is my favorite of the 3D shows.

Something worth pointing out here is that most of this still only in the planning stages. Concept to reality will go through many changes.

When you are at Magic Kingdom, if you look between Small World and the old skycar pavilion, I spotted a section of new castle looking wall above the buildings/trees, now I see that on the plans, maybe they started already? Wish I took a picture.

I know there are a lot others wanting Mr. Toad back as well but the truth is that even if they did, it wouldn't be the same. Just look at Journey into the Imagination.

I will be upset to see the Mickey and Minnie houses go. With small children, it is hard to pay close attention to some attractions, no matter how small. There is a "Disney" attention to detail that goes unappreciated to parents there with kids, but for us "big kids", these are some of the things that I remember most.
