Not really Disney news but it is big one.
Merlin Entertainments Group the British amusement operator that bought Cypress Gardens earlier this month announced Thursday that it plans to convert the Polk County attraction into a theme park based on Lego toy building blocks. I think this park might actually work and the area itself could really benefit. Combine this with the pretty nice water park that already exists and there is decent combination of worth seeing attractions.
I know most of you are wondering, how far is this from Disney World, well, it's about 45 minutes on a good day

That is actually pretty cool! My kids love the Legos and I love the Mall of America area that is Legoland. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out!

Looks like I better start planning the next trip. When is this supposed to open? I think my boys would be more excited to go there than Disney. They live for LEGOs.

What was Cypress Gardens? I totally remember visiting something by that name in the late 80s. But I can't remember anything about it really. All I remember was the hype and the name which leads me to think it was probably pretty lame.

Cypress Gardens was the original theme park. The park itself has been there for decades and it lost its way in the 90's. The park has exchanged hands many times since. I thought it was doomed to the wrecking ball until I heard about the Legoland idea which is probably going to be the thing that saves it.
