How old are your children? If they don't have cell phones yet, I would consider a prepaid phone just for the trip.
I think there may be the emergency phones too (firefly?) That have just a few buttons and 1 of them would be you or the police.
I'm sure you've done this, but talk about who to contact in case they do get lost.
I also found this online, but I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for.

I know that is the scariest feeling. When are you going?

Thanks for your help Kim. I've looked into these units and it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I have two girls aged 8 and 6 and we sometimes split up, I'm looking more for something to help if they are lost or god-forbid taken. I want to attach it to their shoes and find them in a hurry if lost in the crowd, We have back-up plans if lost, meeting places, etc, but always goods to have a more concrete plan.

I understand. The only things I've seen for shoes are for Alzheimers patients or autistic children, but the shoes are huge and clunky.

Do you know if the Nike+ system that is in the bottom of the Nike shoes work for this at all? I'm not sure how exactly, but I know when I run it's a GPS for my route and works for IPOD and IPhones, I'm just not sure what the range is if they have the chip in the shoe, and you have the IPOD/Phone.

Just another idea.

Those shoes only show were you have been, not were you are (that would require a cell connection).

Prepaid Android, $100 plus $40 monthly fee (no contract, prepaid) then install any one of many apps for tracking in the Google Play Store like this one for example. After the trip, eBay the phone. Bonus, the Android is great for watching movies, checking in on your favorite Disney planning website plus a ton more. iPhone fan boys need not apply (just joking, relax Apple enthusiasts, but hey, this same solution would cost way more on iPhone).

I like the idea of the cell phone to with GPS. Even if the price seems high, sometimes 'piece of mind' is worth it!
