Don't feel like reading this, well, two simple
things to point out.
1. Lysol kills %99.9 which sounds impressive but it is not effective
against the Norwalk virus A.K.A the "the stomach bug" and Lysol works on
non-porous surfaces only. Therefore, spraying Lysol on your carpet or
any fabric type surface is futile.
2. Most, hand Sanitizers do not work on viruses at all and they strip
away protective oils from your hands. Read on for more...
I admit it, I'm a germophobe! I hate the thought of what the maids have
left behind in their hurry to turn rooms over. Was the family before us
"infected" with anything? Did they have some illness and was this room
or vacation home a war front on bacteria and germs just hours before I
arrived? Yes, it smells nice but yuck, this is not my home and I don't
know what's been going here. I'm not trying to scare anyone but this is
something that has always bothered me and after a recent outbreak of
stomach bug here at my own home it got me thinking that there has got to be
some sort of whole house or at least room fogger that will essentially
kill the germs instead of me trying to wipe down all the surfaces or
flood the entire area with Lysol. Well, after many hours of research and
looking at some rather expensive products ranging from $300 to over $900
which included entire protective suits and lengthy warnings I found one
product that really seemed to be exactly what I was looking for and in
the instant I realized this could be a very valuable thing to everyone
reading this site. I'll skip the long yada yada and just give you the
skinny.
SafeSpace®
offers a product that is a Disinfectant Room Fogger and best of all it
is affordable. Two 6 oz cans will cost you roughly $15 including
shipping! Each can will fog a room approximately 21 feet x 21 feet
with a ceiling of about 10 foot. Killing most everything that can make
us sick. This is not to be confused with a "Bug Bomb" which is target at
bugs. This product uses hospital grade disinfectant to kill viruses,
bacteria, molds etc. When purchasing, use discount code "explore" for
10% off your order! So, I have Lysol you say, well, read that label...
While 99.99% may sound impressive to people thinking back to test scores
in school, in the world of germ eradication, this is barely better than
washing with mere soap and water (99.9%), leaving thousands of microbes
alive to reproduce and repopulate their environment. In short, a surface
that has been “cleaned” to 99.99% is not truly clean, is not at all
sterile
BTW, did you know that those hand
sanitizers you carry around to keep yourself from getting sick... well,
they don't work on most viruses, more specially
they don't work on stomach viruses! This is what you should be using,
a
hand sanitizer that works on most common stomach and flu viruses.
(They also sell products for surfaces and laundry!) Alcohol-based
sanitizers do not offer enough protection for against Norovirus and
other germs (only 99.99%). To kill 99.99999% of all, use DepHyze Hand
Sanitizer. DepHyze Foaming Hand Sanitizer’s active ingredient is
benzalkonium chloride, an alcohol-free antimicrobial compound that has
been widely used in hospitals for more than 60 years in surface
cleaners, sterilizing agents, and leave-on FDA Monograph, anti-bacterial
skin treatments.

Couple
things you are probably asking yourself right now as I am so I will
mention them but check out their
website for
more details. 1. How do you treat a room? Turn off
the AC or Heating then simply place the can in the middle of the room on
top of some newspaper, a couple of paper plates or something to
basically act as barrier between it and the structure under it. Push the
trigger all the way down and exit the room.
2. How long does it take? Approximately 2 hours, then 30
minutes to air out the room. 3. Can it go in my luggage? Yes,
and no, the TSA keeps
changing regulations but essentially this is no different than a can of
hairspray. Check with the airline before hand or better yet have it
shipped directly to your resort and heck, while you are at it, ask them
to use it in your room before you get there! Wouldn't that be nice!
4. Harmful to pets or children? Yes, in direct contact but most
everything under sink is the same! 5. Why use it? Go back to the top and
start reading again. Yes I'm being funny but this is something that
really bothered me and if it bothers you, then this will at least give
you some relief to your worrying about the room being sanitized. I don't
know about you but that piece of tissue paper that usually says
something like "cleaned by ____" across the toilet seat means little to
me. The people that clean rooms and homes for a living are not usually
paid based on quality of work and lets face it, most of them could care
less about how clean they actually get things and if it looks nice then
that's good enough not to mention the fact that most cleaning is
essentially just smearing germs around.
